You Can't See Me (until mid-2008)

Well folks, the odds finally got him. After 3+ years of winning handicap matches and damn near every other match he's been in, with such a stranglehold on the WWE Title that people remember the days of HHH wistfully, John Cena was injured last night on Monday Night Raw with a complete pectoral tear. The word going around right now is that he'll be out between 6 and 8 months, and the injury was so bad that he was rushed into surgery sometime TODAY after being examined.

Now I'm not the type of guy who wishes injury on anyone whether I like them or not, but I have to admit I'm more than a little giddy at the prospect of more than half a year without the Dr. of Thugganomics. It's taken quite a while to get to this level of apathy, believe me. I was one of the ones who thought Cena got shortchanged at WM21 when he won the title rather anticlimatically in about 8 minutes, but he's made up for it since by constantly beating the odds and playing superman for basically the last 3 years.

I hope the guy gets well and can return to the ring, but right now all I can think of is just what the WWE is going to do to fill his spot. There's a few guys due to come back from injury that could possibly fill his spot, there's always Trips, but if they really want to set the fanbase on it's ear...

There's Y2J. Pull the trigger, and let Chris Jericho SAVE THE WWE.

I'm thinking Jericho's price just went up.

Curious to see how the WWE will find a way to fill up their main event ranks without pushing Shelton Benjamin. I'm sure they'll find a way.

Personally, I think they should take their time.

Make a thirty-two man tournament for the vacant RAW title. But do the following:

1) Take it from all three brands- ideally, get a couple wrestlers from Mexico or Japan to add to the international flavor

2) Spend three weeks building up the title, the tournament, and the wrestlers, before having a single match. Interviews with the wrestlers about their desire to be champion, about being the big man in the WWE. Make it mean something.

3) (here's the big one). Have HHH in the first match- and have him lose. Make it a screwjob, make it a reversed decision by McMahon- whatever. Just just get him out of the tournament in the first match, to send a message that this will be a serious departure from the 'norm'.

4) Who wins? Your call. Kennedy. MVP. Matt Hardy. Finaly. Anyone who hasn't held the belt before.

If it works, you've got a new star. If not, Cena's back in six months to regain the belt.

Just my $0.11

That would rock. Triple H should probably make it to at least the quarterfinals, because he is the biggest star on the show and you have to keep him from sabotaging the whole thing somehow. (I can see him playing "Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania IX" very easily.)

And if the new champ doesn't get over, have Orton or Triple H beat him in three weeks and hold the belt until Cena's healthy.

So, of course, the WWE decides to bury Orton and put the belt on Trips yet again...

And then elevate Orton in the same night, all on a night when the crowd only wanted one man.

And did not get him.
